Casey Nichols, FNP-BC, DCNP, received her master of science degree in nursing/advanced registered nurse practitioner in 2006 from the University of Florida. In 2013, she successfully obtained credentialing as a dermatology certi- fied nurse practitioner (DCNP). The DCNP certification is awarded to those who successfully meet the eligibility require- ments and pass a rigorous written examina- tion. According to the Dermatology Nursing Certification Board, in order to be eligible to even sit for the DCNP exam, candidates must first meet the following criteria: ●   ● Obtain a master’s degree in nursing ●   ● Hold current nurse practitioner (NP) state licensure ●   ● Achieve national certification as an NP ●   ● Log a minimum of 3,000 hours of recent NP practice with a current practice in dermatology In addition, the certification is valid for a period of three years, but recertification may be attained through contact hours of continuing education credit or by examination.
