Our orthopedic all-star team has answers for your concerns Common patient questions that our orthopedics and sports medicine team addresses every day include exploring all options for care. Orthopedics is the branch of medicine concerned with the musculoskeletal system of bones, joints, liga- ments and tendons. Injuries, overuse and just getting older can take a toll on that system. Our job is to see what options have the best chance of success to do that,” he says. Dr. Olson goes on to explain that surgery is reserved for use when conservative options have failed or will not provide the best outcomes. The decision for surgery may also include determining everything needed to ensure the patient experiences the best in both pre- and post-operative care. “If we determine that surgery is the best course of action, then we often team up with one of our (Therapy & Sports Medicine) physical therapists, in their particular area of expertise, for optimal outcomes and function. It’s a good collaboration between patient, provider and therapist,” Dr. Olson adds. New ways to relieve pain Nonsurgical options may also include pain management.
