The Grande Ronde Hospital Foundation celebrated its 50th anniversary at its annual Rooftop Social on June 27 in the rooftop gardens at Grande Ronde Hospital. The Foundation took the opportunity to tell the attendees about the patient care projects it would be backing. Foundation Manager Patrick Flynn announced that fundraising efforts would go toward the purchase of two new hemodialysis machines in the Intensive Care Unit for patients who are admitted to the Hospital in need of dialysis treatments. Currently, patients must be transferred to another facility to receive dialysis. Purchases such as these assist the Hospital in fulfilling its vision of being able to provide care locally so patients do not have to travel out of the Grande Ronde Valley for their health care. Other equipment purchases include “The Torch,” a high-intensity ultraviolet light array used to disinfect patient areas to prevent hospital-acquired infections; additional telemedicine “robots” to allow patients and providers to connect remotely and securely with specialty providers for services not hosted at GRH; and a new EKG unit for the Elgin Clinic. The Foundation also recognized the most recent recipients of its new Challenge Coin award. The award is given to donors who achieve a long history of giving, volunteering, or other efforts that go above and beyond for the Foundation. The Foundation recognized Tim and June Wilson, the Honorable Eric Valentine and Meg Valentine, Bob and Ann Hulden, and Dr. Michael Hetrick and Kathy Hetrick.
