Grande Ronde Hospital | Life & Health | Summer 2020
Crisis brings out our community’s best Coronavirus created a unique situation for the health care industry, and GRH is no exception. Our community continues to show their appreciation to our local health care workers through thank-you recog- nitions, gifts, and material donations of useful and critical items. Medical supplies donated Local quilting and sewing groups, with some guidance from GRH, have sewn over 1,000 cloth masks to help us preserve personal protective equipment (PPE) and protect ourselves and patients. Community members have donated medical-grade masks, surgical gowns, gloves and other medical supplies. Another person is using their 3D printer to create “mask straps” for ear-loop masks so prolonged use doesn’t hurt the wearer’s ears or create headaches. Some of these donations have come from retired medical profes- sionals and medical mission volunteers, and others have come from community members who have no medical background at all. Some people have also donated money to “Protect Our Heroes” as part of a national initiative backed by the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy to provide financial means to procure PPE for front-line medical workers. Other thank-you gifts On top of the material donations, “thank-you’s” from community members have taken many forms: Le Bebe Cakes sent cake pop truffles along with thank-you notes from local kiddos. An anonymous donor in conjunction with the La Grande Domino’s Pizza provided enough pizza for every employee. Another donor and La Grande Pizza Hut donated more pizza to hospital staff. La Grande Dutch Bros donated several cases of Rebel energy drinks. Neesha Turner, Lularoe consultant, gave us a few dozen leggings. Please join us in thanking these community members as well as many more not listed here for these gifts of care, gratitude and thanks to our staff! We decided to postpone the gala, not knowing when the pandemic would allow public gatherings again. As our community and the world are still slowly working to deter- mine our new normal, we are working to find a balance of fundraising with a purpose without relying on large events. The gala will be back, and we promise we will deliver on our event being the “Premier Event in Northeast Oregon.” Until more information is available and we can announce a confirmed date for the next gala, we need your help to continue to fulfill the mission of Grande Ronde Hospital to “Ensure access to high-quality, cost-effective health care in a safe and customer-friendly environment for all those in need of our services” without having to leave your home community.
