Grande Ronde Hospital | Community Benefit Report | 2013 - page 3

Reaching out
Early in the fall of 2012, Grande Ronde Hospital (GRH)
reached out to the Oregon Office of Rural Health to be
our partner in gathering data on the health needs of
Union County residents. Our focus was to define unmet
needs and identify underserved populations for the
purpose of determining how GRH could best serve our
community within the federally defined guidelines for
providing community benefits.
Together, we reached out to a diverse group, targeting
community leaders across broad demographic categories.
We asked each to meet with us to provide unfiltered feed-
back and address what they each saw as the most press-
ing issues facing the overall health of our communities.
In total, we conducted 63 Key Informant Interviews. The
results of those interviews, along with the official com-
munity health needs assessment (CHNA) and other CHNA
supporting documents, are posted under the “Community
Benefit” tab of our public website,
.

Collaborating on care
GRH has been instrumental in a partnership with other
medical, health and community organizations for the
development and financial sustainability of a coordinated
care organization for Eastern Oregon residents. The need
for such an organization is crucial to having a voice in
the Oregon Health Authority decision-making processes
that will impact health care for our local communities.
The Eastern Oregon Coordinated Care Organization is
a collaboration that brings the 12 counties of Baker,
Gilliam, Grant, Harney, Lake, Malheur, Morrow, Sherman,
Umatilla, Union, Wallowa and Wheeler together for such
a purpose.
Teaching the next generation
GRH is honored to be a teaching hospital. We provide
ongoing medical education and training for nursing and
pharmacy students as well as medical technicians in a
variety of health care fields who are working toward a
degree program or certification.
